Tattersalls Purchases Brightwells
Tattersalls has purchased the bloodstock auctioneering business of Brightwells, and will re-brand it under the Tattersalls Ireland banner as the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham and Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Sales. The new division of Tattersalls Ireland will be operated by the UK-based team of Richard Botterill, Andrew Hickman, Matthew Hall and Dawn Thomas under the management of Richard Pugh. The announcement follows approval from the Competition and Markets Authority.
“Terms were agreed between Tattersalls and Brightwells back in July and we are delighted that our acquisition of the bloodstock auctioneering business of Brightwells has now been approved by the ‘Competition and Markets Authority,’” said Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony. “Our horses in training sales team at Tattersalls Ireland, led by Richard Pugh, are enormously looking forward to working with their former Brightwells counterparts to build upon the huge success that they have enjoyed in the National Hunt market in recent years.”
“The team will be further strengthened by the addition of Matt Mitchell,” Mahony added. “Matt is enormously experienced and well-respected and we are delighted to welcome him to the Tattersalls Ireland Board as a non – executive director. One of Ireland’s leading point to point jockeys Jamie Codd is also joining Tattersalls Ireland as our Horses in Training Sales Representative, while Bob Woodhouse will replicate the role he has played for Brightwells, as our representative in the North of England.”
Brightwells has been staging bloodstock sales at Ascot Racecourse since 1990 and Cheltenham Racecourse since 2009 The first sale to be conducted under the Tattersalls Ireland banner will be at Ascot Nov. 3, followed by a sale at Cheltenham Nov. 13.
